  1. Can I use a harness to get my dog to stop pulling?

  2. a dog harness is a great tool if you want to have your dog pull you all over the place. Originally Harnesses were made for pulling heavy loads, so I do not recommend a harness if you are trying to train your dog not to pull or trying to be in control when you are out on walks.

Hello Andrew, thanks for your question. American Bulldogs are great dogs! However they can really develop some bad habbits.

    1. Jumping- This is a difficult thing to explain without being in front of you, so the good news is that I'm going to say that it can be fixed and once it is fixed dog will not ever jump on anyone again. The bed news is that there is no way I can help you by a blog and you may need some proffesional assistance in order to stop this behavior. One thing that you can start by doing is when you walk into the back yard ignore the dog, don't excite him or acknoledge him and that may help. Once dog is calm then you can pet him, if he gets excited again, then ignore once more. Sometimes this helps, others times you need a different technique. Make sure dog is not outside alone too long, because this all can be linked to dog getting bored and anxious.Remember, a calm dog is a happy dog!

    2. Eating Feces- Usually this has to do with stress, but there are so many things, like lack of protein in the diet, anemia, boredom,or just being in the pen too long and being unable to hold the poop that long, so he cleans up after himself.
To fix this you have to figure out what is going on and what is causing it.

I highly recommend that you contact a professonal dog trainer in your area, that has dealt with American Bulldogs and behavior issues in the past and have them work with you if you feel that you can't figure it out on your own. However, make sure that you stay far away from any trainer who tells you that they will teach your dog obedience in order to fix a behavior issue, because unless the behavior issue is that he doesnt come, or sit, then it won't work and you will waste your money. Good luck and keep us posted!
